We recently had the privilege of celebrating our 16th wedding anniversary at the beautiful Mount Grace Hotel and Spa. Nestled on a hill with sweeping views of the majestic Magaliesburg mountains this luxury country retreat is the perfect spot for your honeymoon, anniversary or just a romantic getaway. Here’s why:

Rest and rejuvenate

From the moment you drive through the gates of Tsogo Sun Mount Grace hotel & Spa serenity enfolds you and you just know this is the perfect spot to relax and rejuvenate.

Upon arrival we were whisked away (literally by one of Mount Grace’s golf carts) to the day spa for some desperately needed pampering. After a relaxing hot stone massage, during which Peet fell asleep three times, we made our way to the spa’s garden to experience their hydrotherapy journey. The purpose of the journey is to stimulate blood circulation, awaken the senses and ultimately leave you with a renewed sense of wellbeing – and it did just that. After relaxing in the serene flotation pool for some time, we refreshed ourselves in the very cold rock pool, and then scampered off into the jetted Jacuzzi, which is said to improve circulation. Feeling relaxed and rejuvenated we made our way to the main outdoor pool, found ourselves deck chairs and spent the afternoon reading and enjoying the views or the beautiful garden.

Our country cottage

Our exclusive suite was pure luxury from foyer to fireplace and as we entered, our own private plunge pool lured us out onto a deck overlooking the surrounding bushveld. We spent a whole afternoon just lounging in the pool enjoying the tranquil atmosphere.

The spacious bedroom’s décor has been carefully selected to create a luxurious feel without feeling cluttered. The king-sized bed with its plush duvet, soft pillows and premium cotton linen was just what this tired mamma and pappa needed. We slept like babies.

But, it was our suite’s bathroom that was the highlight of our stay. I took every opportunity possible to indulge in long, warm baths. While I laid soaking watching birds scratch around in the shrubbery in front of our bathroom, Peet opted to enjoy the outdoor shower.

Although Mount Grace boasts with 121 rooms and suites, they are discretely positioned ensuring privacy and giving you the feeling that you are the only guest on the property.

Country living at its best

At Mount Grace, going out and exploring is inevitable. The Cog & Sprocket route is ideal for mountain bike and trail running enthusiast. There are also some great hiking trails on the property. Mount Grace also boasts with their own tennis courts and fitness centre.  If like us, you are a keen birder be sure to pack your binoculars as the birding on the grounds is good.

More than a romantic getaway

Mount Grace also caters for families. Their Kids Club offers a range of great activities that will keep the kids entertained for hours on end. The club features a large outdoor play garden with a wooden jungle gym, a push-bike track, bicycles, and a splash pool. With two dedicated child minders on duty, mom and dad can take a little down time. They also offer daily activities twice a day, which include painting, pottery, nature walks and swimming competitions. And I was told the movie nights are not to be missed.

The serenity of Mount Grace makes it the perfect place for tired city dwellers to come and recharge. A definite must on your ‘Staycation bucket list’.
