Safari Moon Luxury Lodge might be located in the Hoedspruit Wildlife Estate, but it still offers guests the opportunity to experience nature first hand – whether it’s from the comfort of your luxurious room or from the comfy loungers poolside. This cosy boutique lodge is the vision of owner and decorator Nicola Leitch. Nicola turned down a dream job, travelling the world sourcing and styling spaces for clients, to focus on her own lodge in her hometown. And I for one am sure glad she did. Nicola, and her husband Guy, have been playing hosts to guests from all over the world since 2020. Celebrity and actor Tom Cruise even called it home away from home during a filming trip to the lowveld. Nicola and Guy’s attention to detail is visible in everything at Safari Moon. Their high teas, dinners, drinks at the bar and even treats for the road are no exception. The meals were not only delicious, but beautiful to look at.

Walking into the lodge is like entering an eclectic art exhibition. From the 55-piece collection Ardmore ceramics in the lounge, to bronzes by Charles Grieg, paintings by Lionel Smit and much more. Safari Moon is any art lovers dream destination. I could happily have spent a few hours just wandering around enjoying this creative space, but the pool and loungers were beckoning me. An afternoon lounging next to the swimming pool, sipping cold bubbly and listening to the birds in the overhanging branches was just what the doctor ordered.

Lazily, and a little begrudgingly, I tore myself away from my lounger and headed to our room for an outside shower before dinner. Each one of the ten luxurious suites have been named after different wildlife species that can be seen in the estate or around the lodge. Each room is fitted out with beautiful décor and interesting pieces of art from across the world. Custom-made beds from Splinters, embroidered fabrics from Kaross and silky soft robes adorn each room.

When you get tired of lounging next to the pool, Safari Moon can organize a morning or afternoon game drive in the Balule Reserve, which is part of the Greater Kruger. Not only are you sure to spot a few of the big five, but you will also be treated to some game drive treats from the Safari Moon kitchen.

Safari Moon Luxury Lodge is the perfect destination for travellers to explore Hoedspruit and surrounds from, with easy access to attractions like the Kruger National Park and the world’s third largest canyon. A place of rest and rejuvenation for the discerning traveller.

Thank you for hosting us Nicola an Guy. We can’t wait to visit again.
