I adore granola for breakfast. And this granola recipe from The Blue Zones Kitchen recipe book is one of the best granolas I have ever eaten. It is easy to make and relatively cheap. The most expensive ingredient is the nuts. I was very tempted to exclude the nuts from the recipe until I read that nuts are shown to reduce ‘bad’ LDL-cholesterol by 9 to 20 percent, regardless of the fat level or amount consumed.
You will need:
3 cups old-fashioned oats
1 to 2 cups of raw nuts (walnuts, almonds, pecans)
3 Tablespoons coconut oil
1/2 cup honey
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 cup of dried fruit
A hand full of chocolate chips (the recipe says optional, but personally I feel it is a must)

This is how:
- Preheat the oven to 150 degrees celsius. Spray a large baking sheet with cooking spray or line with baking paper.
- Combine oats, nuts, oil, honey and cinnamon in a mixing bowl.
- Spread the mixture onto the baking sheet and bake for about 30 minutes until golden brown, stirring a few times.
- Remove from oven and transfer to a cooling rack and let cool. When cool add the fruit and chocolate chips.
Enjoy!
