With the cooler temperatures creeping in, autumn is beckoning me to open some good Reds. I have four stellar reds for Autumn, and a beautiful Chardonnay for good measure.

Bonnievale Shiraz 2020

According to winemaker, Eddie Mathambo, this spicy and earthy Shiraz is a typical Shiraz from the Breede River area. Dark fruit and subtle hints of coffee make it the perfect wine for the autumn months.

Pair with: A potjie or meaty stew.

Van Zijl family Vintners Shiraz Mourvèdre 2020 (Imbuko winery)

Packed with ripe Blackberry flavours and savoury spices this blend tastes like autumn.

Pair with: A hearty oxtail stew or with duck. Also pairs well with a hearty pie.

Val du Charron Reserve Syrah 2020

A velvety and refined wine with a rich texture. With red fruits, sweet spices, and caramel nuances this Syrah is perfect for colder autumn nights in front of a crackling fire.

Pair with: Rich stew. Also pairs well with a pizza.

Saronsberg Shiraz 2020

This wine won a double gold at the National Wine Challenge as well as the Shiraz trophy at the Michelangelo Wine Awards. With its dark, purple colour, ripe fruit flavours and floral nose it is not difficult to see (taste) why.

Pair with: Duck or any red meat.

NUY Winery Chardonnay 2020

With its distinct lime and biscuit aromas this is the perfect wine for those warmer Autumn days.

Pair with: Grilled or roasted chicken or fish.

Enjoy! Cheers! Here’s to a new season.
