Peet and I were desperately in need of a break from our everyday routine, so we dropped Amélie off at granny’s house, picked up a coffee to go, and took the N4 east. And before we knew it, we were driving through Rosemary Hill’s gate. Rosemary Hill’s farmstay cabins are located on a farm no more than 30 minutes’ drive from Pretoria, making it perfect for a quick getaway. After a friendly welcome and smooth check-in, we made our way to our home for the evening – The Huddle.

The Huddle

This one-of-a-kind converted shipping container will blow your mind. The Huddle is compact yet spacious enough for two. The large sliding window next to the queen-sized bed not only allows for beautiful views, but also gives you access to the elevated chill net. The chill net is definitely one of the best features of The Huddle. It’s the perfect spot from where to enjoy a sundowner while taking in the stunning sunset vistas. The Huddle’s interior is just as impressive as the exterior, with its bent frames and trendy furniture it ticked all the boxes for us.

The Huddle (and the rest of Rosemary Hill’s Cabinville) is self-catering with a fully equipped kitchenette and outside braai area overlooking beautiful grassland. As it was a rainy and cold evening, we opted for dinner at the on-site restaurant, and we were not sorry. The Greenhouse Café serves some of the best wood-fired pizzas in and around Pretoria. The café also has an impressive gin and wine offering.

After a great meal we headed back for what was undoubtedly the highlight of our stay at The Huddle – a bath under the stars. The cabin’s outdoor tub is the perfect spot for couples to relax and spend some quality time together. Although it was very cold, we sat sipping wine and chatting for hours. Adding bubble bath and hot water occasionally. It really is the perfect spot for couples, and in our case parents of a toddler, to catch up.

Activities

Rosemary Hill offers an array of activities to choose from. The adventurous will love their trail running and mountain bike trails. For those wanting to take it a bit slower – why not go on a horse trail ride or hike? If you are looking for something different to do book a Sedway tour and take a fun lap around the farm. In addition to these activities Rosemary Hill also partners with Acrobranch. This unique treetop experience includes treetop-high ropes and tricky crossings, as well as exciting ziplines. And if romance is what you are looking for book a picnic basket and spend a lazy afternoon in Rosemary Hill’s beautiful, formal garden (book your romantic picnic box here).

It’s all in the detail

Rosemary Hill goes to great lengths to make your romantic getaway extra special. The chocolate brownies on our pillows made for a yummy late-night treat. The jar of homemade oat crunchies and rusks was another spoil. Even though we only spent one night in the Huddle Peet and I had ration ourselves.

Whether you need some quality time together or just want to escape city life for a night or two, The Huddle is the perfect spot for a quick romantic getaway. What are you waiting for? Pack that overnighter, drop the kids off at granny’s house and head over to Rosemary Hill.
