The perfect romantic getaway in Wolseley

As you drive through the gates of Palmietvlei, an export blueberry and pear farm and home to Riverstone’s CouplesPod, you immediately feel the peaceful atmosphere one only finds on a farm. But Riverstone’s CouplesPod is not your average farm-stay. Riverstone aims to offer guests a tranquil country getaway, without having to compromise on their creature comforts – and they definitely succeed in doing so.  Situated in a nook on a gorgeous farm dam, with stunning views of the Mostershoek mountain this stylish and private accommodation is the perfect spot for a romantic getaway.

The CouplesPod

This double container conversion is all about rest, relaxation, and the view. The pod spoils you with a choice of cozy seating areas all designed with the view in mind. With a wood burning stove inside the pod, I almost wished for colder weather so we could cuddle up in front of the fireplace with a glass of red wine. But as it was sunny and hot, we spent the afternoon relaxing on the deep undercover patio and even took a dip in the farm dam. The patio seats in front of the Pod were the perfect spot to watch the mountain change colour as the sun slipped away.

One of the highlights of our stay at the CouplesPod had to be the pod’s kitchen. When the owners of Riverstone say ‘fully equipped’, they mean it. This beautifully designed kitchen literally has everything you need, and more. From a dishwasher and pod machine to a juicer and Nutribullet. I have never stayed in self-catering accommodation with such a luxurious kitchen.

As the moon came up over the Mostertshoek mountains the gorgeous four poster queen-sized bed was beckoning us, but not before a bath under the stars. We just couldn’t resist a long soak surrounded by Fynbos. Waking up the next morning to the beautiful mountains, and a cup of freshly brewed coffee, was a such a treat. And with that view we could happily have stayed in bed for the whole morning, but there were too many places to see (and wines to taste) to stay in bed for too long.

The Area

It was our first visit to the Wolseley area, and we were excited to explore this beautiful part of our country. Being situated between the Breedekloof, Slanghoek, Wolseley and Tulbagh wine routes Riverstone CouplesPod is ideally located to visit some of the best wine estates in the country. We spent an unforgettable morning tasting exquisite Krone Cap Classiques on the 300-year-old Twee Jonge Gezellen wine estate in Tulbagh. And what would a visit to Tulbagh be without doing a tasting at the beautiful Saronsberg farm. We left there feeling inspired not only by the incredible wine and art pieces on the farm, but also the natural beauty of the Breede River Valley. The CouplesPod is also ideally situated to visit quaint farm-stalls, good restaurants, and olive farms. Wine-lovers and foodies will love the Wolseley area.

With no television (although there is uncapped WiFi) the CouplesPod is very intentional about creating a space where couples can spend quality time together. This luxurious farm stay is the perfect spot for a romantic weekend away. It is only 1 hour and 20 minutes’ drive from Cape Town. And your beloved fur-child is also welcome. If you are looking for unique place to rest and re-connect with that special person, Riverstone CouplesPod has to be on your bucket-list.

The CouplesPod is the newest edition to The Riverstone Portfolio. They offer two other unique self catering accommodation options – Riverstone FamTin and The Riverstone House. As well as a private campsite in Ceres. Visit their beautiful website for more information.

We had an amazing time at the CouplesPod. Thank you for hosting us Riverstone.
